Retraction, Withdrawal, and Correction Policy

Integritas Terbuka: Peace and Interfaith Studies (INT) is committed to maintaining the integrity, accuracy, transparency, and reliability of the scholarly record. The journal addresses errors, research misconduct, ethical violations, and publication disputes in accordance with its publication ethics and relevant guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

When concerns arise regarding a submitted or published manuscript, the Editorial Team will assess the available evidence fairly and, where necessary, seek clarification from the author(s), reviewer(s), institution(s), or other relevant parties. Editorial actions may include correction, retraction, withdrawal, an expression of concern, or, in exceptional circumstances, removal of content.

Retraction Policy

Integritas Terbuka: Peace and Interfaith Studies may retract a published article when there is clear evidence that the reliability or integrity of the article has been substantially compromised.

Retraction may be considered in circumstances including, but not limited to:

  1. Fabrication or Falsification of Data
    The article contains fabricated, falsified, manipulated, or seriously unreliable data or evidence that materially affects the validity of its findings or conclusions.
  2. Major Errors
    The article contains substantial errors in analysis, interpretation, methodology, or reporting that cannot be adequately addressed through a correction.
  3. Plagiarism
    The article contains substantial plagiarism, including unauthorized reproduction of text, ideas, data, images, or other materials from previously published or unpublished sources.
  4. Redundant or Duplicate Publication
    The article substantially overlaps with previously published work without appropriate disclosure, justification, or citation.
  5. Unethical Research Practices
    The research violates applicable ethical principles, including serious breaches involving informed consent, confidentiality, privacy, research participants, vulnerable communities, or other relevant ethical requirements.
  6. Authorship Misconduct
    The article involves serious authorship manipulation, fraudulent attribution, undisclosed ghost authorship, inappropriate guest authorship, or other substantial violations of authorship standards.
  7. Undisclosed Competing Interests
    A significant competing interest was not disclosed and is considered to have materially affected the interpretation, evaluation, or credibility of the work.
  8. Manipulation of the Editorial or Peer-Review Process
    Evidence demonstrates manipulation of peer review, reviewer identities, editorial procedures, citations, or other aspects of the publication process.

When an article is retracted:

  • a clearly identifiable retraction notice will be published and linked to the original article;
  • the notice will state the reason for the retraction as clearly and objectively as possible;
  • the original article will normally remain accessible as part of the permanent scholarly record and will be clearly marked as Retracted;
  • the PDF and, where applicable, the HTML version will be marked to indicate the article’s retracted status;
  • the retraction notice will be freely accessible; and
  • relevant metadata and indexing information will be updated where technically possible.

Retraction is intended to correct the scholarly record rather than to punish authors.

Article Withdrawal Policy

Withdrawal applies primarily to manuscripts that have not yet been formally published as part of an issue or final scholarly record.

Authors may request withdrawal by submitting a formal written request to the Editorial Team. The request must explain the reason for withdrawal and must be submitted by the corresponding author with the knowledge and agreement of all co-authors.

A manuscript may normally be withdrawn without charge if the request is submitted before substantial editorial processing or peer review has begun.

However, when a manuscript has already undergone substantial editorial handling, peer review, revision, proofreading, copyediting, layout, or other publication-related work, the journal may apply a withdrawal fee of IDR 1.500.000 to compensate for editorial and production resources already used.

The withdrawal fee is separate from the journal’s Article Publishing Charge (APC) of IDR 700,000, which applies to accepted articles for publication. The APC should not automatically be interpreted as a withdrawal fee.

Any applicable withdrawal fee must be communicated transparently to the author before the withdrawal is finalized.

The Editorial Team may also withdraw a manuscript before publication when serious ethical or procedural problems are identified, including:

  1. simultaneous submission to multiple journals;
  2. plagiarism or substantial self-plagiarism;
  3. fabricated or falsified data;
  4. fraudulent or disputed authorship;
  5. serious violations of research ethics;
  6. manipulation of the peer-review process;
  7. copyright infringement; or
  8. other substantial violations of the journal’s publication ethics.

No withdrawal fee should be imposed when the withdrawal is initiated by the journal because of editorial, ethical, legal, or technical reasons attributable to the journal.

Where a manuscript has already entered an advanced stage of publication, the Editorial Team may require additional clarification before approving the withdrawal in order to preserve the integrity and transparency of the editorial process.

All withdrawal decisions and their reasons will be documented in the journal’s editorial records.

Correction Policy

Integritas Terbuka: Peace and Interfaith Studies will issue a correction when an error is identified in a published article but the error does not invalidate the article’s central findings, arguments, or conclusions.

Corrections may be issued for matters including:

  1. factual or typographical errors that could affect interpretation;
  2. incorrect author names, affiliations, or author information;
  3. errors in tables, figures, references, quotations, or captions;
  4. minor methodological or analytical inaccuracies that do not invalidate the overall findings;
  5. omitted acknowledgements, funding information, or relevant disclosures; and
  6. other errors that require clarification to maintain an accurate scholarly record.

Depending on the nature of the error, the journal may publish an Erratum, Corrigendum, or another clearly labelled correction notice.

The correction notice will identify the original article, explain what has been corrected, indicate the location of the correction, be linked to the original publication, and remain permanently accessible as part of the scholarly record.

Where appropriate, the PDF and HTML versions may also be updated, provided that the correction is clearly documented and the publication history remains transparent.

 

 

Expression of Concern

The Editorial Team may issue an Expression of Concern when serious questions have been raised regarding a published article but the available evidence is insufficient to support an immediate correction or retraction.

An Expression of Concern may be issued when an investigation is ongoing, evidence of possible misconduct is inconclusive, a relevant institution has not completed its investigation, substantial concerns remain regarding the reliability or ethical status of the article, or a final editorial decision cannot reasonably be made without additional evidence.

The Expression of Concern will be linked to the article and may subsequently be replaced or supplemented by a correction, retraction, or other editorial notice once the matter has been resolved.

Post-Publication Ethics and Appeals

Authors, readers, reviewers, editors, institutions, or other parties may raise concerns regarding the integrity of an article published in Integritas Terbuka: Peace and Interfaith Studies.

Concerns should be submitted to the Editorial Team with sufficient information and supporting evidence to allow an appropriate assessment.

The journal will evaluate concerns impartially, provide relevant parties with an opportunity to respond where appropriate, protect confidentiality during investigations when necessary, avoid making unsupported allegations public, maintain appropriate documentation, and base editorial decisions on the available evidence and applicable publication ethics.

Authors who disagree with a decision regarding correction, withdrawal, retraction, or another post-publication action may submit a formal appeal. Appeals should clearly identify the contested decision and provide supporting evidence or arguments.

Article Removal

Complete removal of a published article is considered an exceptional measure.

An article may be removed when continued publication creates serious legal, ethical, privacy, or safety risks, including:

  • a court or legal order requiring removal;
  • serious copyright infringement;
  • defamatory or unlawful material;
  • substantial breaches of privacy or confidentiality;
  • publication of information that creates a credible risk of harm; or
  • other exceptional circumstances in which continued public access would be inappropriate.

When removal is necessary, the journal will normally retain the article’s bibliographic information and publication record. A notice will explain that the article has been removed and, where legally and ethically possible, state the reason.

Publication Fees and Withdrawal Charges

Integritas Terbuka: Peace and Interfaith Studies applies the following publication fees:

Article Submission Fee: IDR 0
Authors are not required to pay a submission fee.

Article Publishing Charge: IDR 1.000.000
The Article Publishing Charge applies to accepted manuscripts and supports editorial processing, peer-review administration, proofreading, publication, and related journal operations.

Article Withdrawal Fee: IDR 1.500.000
A withdrawal fee may apply only when an author requests withdrawal after substantial editorial, peer-review, revision, proofreading, copyediting, layout, or production work has been completed.

The withdrawal fee is not the same as the Article Publishing Charge and must be disclosed clearly to authors before it is applied.

Editorial Independence and Transparency

Decisions concerning corrections, retractions, withdrawals, expressions of concern, article removal, or related ethical matters are made by the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Team on the basis of available evidence, publication ethics, and the integrity of the scholarly record.

The journal’s institutional affiliation with Program Integritas Terbuka, Kongregasi Hati Kudus Yesus (RSCJ) Indonesia does not determine or interfere with editorial decisions concerning correction, retraction, withdrawal, or other post-publication actions.

All such decisions will be handled as transparently, consistently, and fairly as possible in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics and relevant COPE guidance.
