  • Integritas Terbuka: Peace and Interfaith Studies
    Vol. 1 No. 1 (2022)

INTEGRITAS TERBUKA: PEACE AND INTERFAITH STUDIES, Vol. 1, No. 1, 2022 (October-December 2022), published six scientific articles on tolerance and inter-religious dialogue as the principal capital in maintaining inter-religious harmony in a pluralistic and multicultural Indonesia. Dialogue reveals important aspects of being human, such as genuinely listening and responding to one another and building bonds between them. Likewise, interfaith dialogue refers to a positive relationship with reciprocity and cooperation between adherents of different religions, emphasizing different perspectives, attitudes, and openness. Several articles use the theoretical perspective of open integrity (integritas terbuka) by stating that interreligious dialogue will bring followers of different religions to understand one another, respect the perspectives of each other's religious values, and prevent people who have different religions from avoiding religious conflicts or attacking one another. It was also found that there was a model of religious attitudes in the traditional and remote Susuru Village, where every member of a different religion respects each other and helps other residents of different religions carry out their worship, for example, through mutual cooperation in building places of worship for residents of different religions. Therefore, interfaith dialogue is the best practice of religious tolerance, namely a manifestation of the universality of spiritual values by providing space for other religions to show the beauty of their religious traditions and practices, not to change someone's beliefs. Other articles present the thoughts of orientalist figures on Islam, namely Sir William Muir and Weil Gustave, who studied the chronology of the revelation of the Qur'an, as well as G.H.A. Juynboll and Joseph Schacht on hadith criticism. Of course, all these different views enrich our understanding of religion itself from the perspective of these different views.
