Integritas Terbuka: Peace and Interfaith Studies Vol. 4 No. 1 (2025) presents eight articles that explore the role of religion in promoting peace, resolving conflict, and shaping cultural identity in Indonesia. The articles include a sociological approach to the dual faces of religion—tolerance and intolerance—as well as an analysis of the symbolic meaning of Pope Francis’ apostolic journey to Indonesia in strengthening interfaith fraternity. The Sisingaan tradition in the Panganten Sunat ceremony is examined as a form of cultural transformation, while digital peace activism is represented by Ainun Jamilah’s efforts to challenge stigma against veiled women. Other studies address liberation theology in the work of Nahdlatul Ulama in Subang, interfaith paradigms in the post-reform era as strategies for conflict resolution, and the polemics and negotiations surrounding interfaith marriage in Indonesian films. The humanist Islamic thought of Ahmad Syafii Maarif is also highlighted as a foundation for national identity in the post-reform context.

This edition features eight articles written by 15 authors from various institutions in Indonesia, including Parahyangan Catholic University (Unpar), Diponegoro University, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Universitas Terbuka, and UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung.

Another study compares Søren Kierkegaard’s and Al-Ghazali’s views on death, offering profound reflections on existence and human mortality. The sacred institution of marriage is analyzed through Islamic and Catholic lenses, revealing shared commitments to familial harmony and responsibility despite differing practices. Sufism is explored through the perspectives of Imam Al-Ghazali and Ibn Arabi, contrasting moral purification with metaphysical unity and underscoring their modern relevance. Education’s transformative power is critiqued through Paulo Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed, calling for liberatory practices to counter oppressive systems. Calvinist ethics are presented as a framework for interfaith harmony, emphasizing simplicity, hard work, and mutual respect. Additional articles investigate the role of Islamic moderation (wasatiyyah) in reducing political polarization and Axel Honneth’s recognition theory to address social media conflicts. Together, these studies contribute fresh insights and actionable strategies to navigate the complexities of coexistence in today’s interconnected world. This edition enriches the discourse on peace and interfaith collaboration.

This edition includes a descriptive-comparative study on the mysticism of Rabia al-Adawiyya and Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, uncovering the spiritual depth of women mystics from Islamic and Christian traditions. Another article revisits the concept of peace through a sociological lens, while a separate study examines the role of community participation in promoting peace on social media. Religious dialogue is explored from Otto Scharmer’s perspective, highlighting new approaches to interfaith communication. Additionally, effective social media marketing strategies for the Halaqah Damai Community are analyzed, emphasizing the impact of digital platforms in fostering peaceful messages. The issue also includes a comparative study on religion and mental health from the viewpoints of Hinduism and Islam, alongside a framing analysis of peace values in the YouTube show Login, featuring religious leaders from Indonesia. Lastly, the evolution of religious architecture in Indonesia is examined, showcasing the integration of local traditions, colonial influences, and modernization in the design of places of worship. These articles collectively contribute to the growing discourse on peace, spirituality, and the role of religion in contemporary society.

INTEGRITAS TERBUKA: PEACE AND INTERFAITH STUDIES, Vol. 2, No. 2, 2023 (October-December 2023), presents eight articles exploring topics at the intersection of environmental sustainability, theology, cultural communication, education, and societal challenges. Several contributions examine the theological comparison between the Catholic encyclical Laudato Si and Muhammadiyah’s environmental theology, and a comparative study of eschatological concepts in Islam and Catholicism, highlighting both similarities and differences. Cultural communication in the support of survivors of sexual violence in West Java is analyzed, focusing on the role of the Indonesian Women's Coalition. Other discussions delve into the positive and negative impacts of globalization on religious interactions within contemporary society, and strategies for fostering character development to address violence in educational settings. Fanaticism is scrutinized from the perspective of hadith, particularly concerning football supporters in Indonesia. Additionally, a critical reflection on religion's existence as a divine message is offered, while a study on improving cognitive function in children with intellectual disabilities through visual arts therapy provides both conceptual insights and practical applications. This edition brings a wide array of interdisciplinary perspectives to address pressing global and local issues.

INTEGRITAS TERBUKA: PEACE AND INTERFAITH STUDIES, Vol. 2, No. 1, 2023 (April-June 2023), features eight articles exploring a wide range of issues related to interfaith dialogue, art, culture, and the impacts of globalization on society. Several articles discuss the importance of a new approach to strengthening religious moderation through interfaith dialogue and how the arts, including music, can play a role in fostering harmonious relationships between religious communities and mitigating social conflicts. Globalization and social media are examined as factors contributing to modern human alienation, while religion and culture face new challenges in the current wave of globalization. Other articles offer practical solutions to counter the negative effects of globalization, especially on the younger generation, through education based on local wisdom and traditional values. The issue of ethnic conflict in Indonesia is addressed with a focus on efforts toward resolution, and the impact of overly restrictive parenting on children's character development is analyzed, highlighting its potential influence on their psychological and social growth. Overall, this edition presents diverse perspectives on the importance of dialogue, art, and education in addressing global challenges in the modern era.

INTEGRITAS TERBUKA: PEACE AND INTERFAITH STUDIES, VOL. 1, NO. 1, 2022 (Oktober-Desember 2022) mempublikasikan enam artikel ilmiah tentang toleransi dan dialog antarumat beragama sebagai modal utama dalam menjaga kerukunan antarumat beragama di Indonesia yang majemuk dan multikultural. Dialog mengungkapkan aspek penting dari manusia, seperti mendengarkan dan menanggapi dengan tulus satu sama lain, dan membangun ikatan di antara mereka. Demikian pula, dialog antaragama mengacu pada hubungan positif dengan timbal balik dan kerja sama di antara pemeluk agama yang berbeda; menekankan perbedaan perspektif, sikap, dan keterbukaan. Beberapa artikel menggunakan perspektif teoritis Integritas Terbuka (open integrity) dengan menyatakan bahwa dialog antaragama akan membawa para pengikut agama memahami satu sama lain, menghargai perspektif nilai-nilai agama masing-masing dan mencegah masyarakat yang memiliki perbedaan agama terhindar dari konflik agama atau saling menyerang satu sama lain. Ditemukan pula adanya model sikap keberagamaan di Kampung Susuru yang tradisional dan terpencil, di mana setiap warga yang berbeda agama saling menghormati dan membantu dalam pelaksanaan ibadah warga lain yang berbeda agama, misalnya gotong royong membangun tempat ibadah warga yang berbeda agama. Oleh karena itu, dialog antariman merupakan best practice dari toleransi beragama, yakni wujud nilai-nilai universalitas agama dengan memberikan ruang terhadap agama lain untuk memperlihatkan keindahan tradisi dan dan praktik keagamaan mereka; bukan untuk mengubah keyakinan seseorang. Artikel lainnya menyajikan pemikiran tokoh orientalis terhadap agama Islam, yaitu Sir William Muir dan Weil Gustave yang mengkaji kronologi turunnya Al-Qur’an, serta G.H.A. Juynboll dan Joseph Schacht terkait kritik hadis. Tentunya, semua perbedaan pandangan ini untuk memperkaya pemahaman tentang agama sendiri dari perspektif pandangan yang berbeda tersebut.
